Difficulty Rating: 2.6
Trail Number: 250

Description

Descends moderately from the town of Blowing Rock on a relocated and improved stretch, following portions of the historic Upper Thunderhole Trail. According to the Blowing Rock Historical Society, the Upper Thunderhole Trail was built in the 1920s by the (now demolished) Mayview Manor Hotel to enable guests to access pristine China Creek and Thunderhole Creek for hiking, hunting and fishing.

The newly-built stretch of trail has waterbars, switchbacks, and rock steps to ease the descent for hikers and shed water.

This trail is located in the Grandfather Ranger District area. For a list of all the trails in that area, see the Grandfather Ranger District trails list page.
